Did you like it? How was the handling? Which particular model was it?

It was an XLT cargo. It wasn’t a great handler but it didn’t feel like a van at all. I like it but its transmission blew up yesterday.

are the transits still rwd? (place i used to work at had a couple old ones in the fleet... they were a right laugh to drive empty)

Oh why did it blow up? At how many miles? Why were your driving it?

It blew up at 97,000 miles and presumably because the automatic trans in these suck. I drove it for work.

The regular Transit is. The Connect is the smaller Focus-based van.

Because that’s what happens to Transit Connect transmissions. That gen is an awful, awful, hateful money pit.

Ask me how I know that one of your posts would include ‘the transmission blew up’.

Transmission aside, this is a good small van.

They seem expensive for just a work van. Do you feel they’re worth the price, or is it just that every car is expensive these days?

The drivers didn’t mind them, but from a fleet manager’s perspective they were a bloody nightmare. We had engine problems with a few of them to go along with the transmission problems, the interior were poorly built with terrible plastics (seat control levers breaking, window cranks, etc.), and only one of them made it to 200k.
Compare that to the Nissan NV200's that we bought. The biggest problem with those is that there’s only one or two available tires with the proper cargo rating, but I’ve got 2 of them with over 200k and we’ve spent maybe a third of what we’ve spent on a comparable Transit Connect. Even the Ram C/V’s I have are less money to maintain. At least their engine problems waited to show up until they had 250k on them.
